Karin Schmid – Karin grew up on a mixed farm near Keoma, AB, raising purebred Simmental cattle and grain, and is still involved in the family operation to a limited extent. She has a Master’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Alberta, and her thesis focused on the genetic and metabolic factors affecting feed efficiency in beef cattle. Before joining Alberta Beef Producers (ABP), Karin spent just over four years with the Canadian Hereford Association as their Breed Development Coordinator.
At ABP, Karin is the Research and Production Manager, providing technical support in the areas of cattle health and welfare, research, and production practices. She works very closely with a number of industry and government organizations on issues of importance to the industry, and large part of her job is translating science to producers and explaining producer needs to researchers.
Megan Van Schaik –Megan is a Beef Cattle Specialist for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, working out of Guelph. Prior to working in her current position, Megan worked in the feed industry for a number of years and then in meat inspection. Megan graduated from the University of Guelph with a B.Sc. (agr), majoring in Animal Science, and a M.Sc. (coursework) in ruminant nutrition, and received her B.Ed. from Queens’ University.
What is a webinar?
Webinars are just like attending a workshop or conference, but from the comfort of your own home or office. We bring the presentation right to you. They’re easy to join and participate in. A reliable, high-speed internet connection is required.
All you need to do is register beforehand, and about 5-10 minutes before the webinar is scheduled to begin, click the link you were provided when you registered. Then turn up your computer speakers or call the phone number provided. That’s it! Sit back and enjoy.
As a participant, you can anonymously answer polls and surveys, and will have the opportunity to ask questions near the end of the webinar.
